Breaking: A’s sign Jake Diekman to a two year deal

The Oakland A’s announced today that they had signed LHP Jake Diekman to a two year deal with a club option for 2022, with $7.5 Million guaranteed. Diekman, who was acquired by the A’s at the 2019 trade deadline from the Kansas City Royals.

Diekman, who had a 4.65 ERA and a 3.55 FIP, has good stuff but lacks control. His fastball averages right at 96 MPH, and he struck out 29.8% of batters faced; however, he also walked 13.8% of batters faced. Diekman is a ground-ball pitcher, which will pair well with the A’s excellent infield defense. He joins T.J. McFarland as the only two lefties in the A’s bullpen, currently.
