The White Sox will be sporting a brand new look at the beginning of next month.
Today, the Chicago White Sox unveiled their Nike City Connect jersey, the third jersey released by Nike as part of their 2021 Nike MLB City Connect Series. Taking elements of their city’s culture, history, and the new culture of the young White Sox, this new jersey looks to pay homage to Chicago’s Southside.
“The Nike Chicago White Sox Connect Jersey pays tribute to the attitude of Chicago’s Southside.” Nike mentions. “In 1991, the White Sox unveiled a new brand identity that aligned perfectly with their community’s hardworking, resilient attitude. The new look not only resonated on the Southside but permeated through Hip Hop and youth culture.”
Nike further explains the stylistic choices for the new Jersey saying that “The ‘Southside’ graphic, on the jersey’s chest, reimagines the popular White Sox’ gothic-script logo to create a new font and number system. Detailing from the White Sox’ dark-grey City Connect Jersey is inspired by the city’s Greystone architectural style.

“The Nike MLB City Connect Series created a rare opportunity to transform a concept for all people who understand what it means to represent the ‘Southside’ into an on-field look and style. We are grateful to Nike who helped us create a uniform that embodies the team’s historic legacy and connections to our fans and the mentality.” said Brooks Boyer, White Sox chief revenue and marketing officer. In a post on the team’s twitter, the White Sox further explained the symbolism of the new jersey and how it’ll connect with the team and all of its fans.

The White Sox will debut this new jersey when they take the field at 1:10 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, at home against the Detroit Tigers. The remaining 2021 Nike MLB City Connect Jerseys to be announced are the Chicago Cubs, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the San Francisco Giants, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Chicago Cubs will be next to debut their yet to be unveiled jerseys, June 12, at home against the St. Louis Cardinals.
