Jose Abreu and Luis Robert honored in July/August Monthly Awards

Jose Abreu and Luis Robert were awarded Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month honors for the month of July/August, and deservedly so. Both players have contributed to a hot start for the South Siders, who are currently in the midst of an AL Central title chase.

In 2020, Jose Abreu has shown his typical offensive surge in the summer months. Pito ended the month with a slash line of .315/.359/.636 with a .996 OPS, 12 HRs, and 31 RBIs. Six of those homers came in one weekend series vs. the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The numbers have put Abreu in the AL MVP conversation in this shortened season along with Angels 3B and CF Anthony Rendon and Mike Trout. So far in September, Abreu has stayed hot, continuing his 20 game hit streak with another homer and 8 RBIs. As of now, Abreu has a case for wining the coveted MVP honor along with a Gold Glove at 1st base with 6 defensive runs saved.

Luis Robert has put together a highlight reel of offensive and defensive plays throughout his rookie season. La Pantera ended the month batting .298/.348/.612 with a .960 OPS, 12 HRs, and 24 RBIs. Robert put together back to back game winning hits with a three-run homer vs the Royals and a RBI double vs the Twins on August 30th and 31st. The numbers have also put Robert in the AL Rookie of the Year conversation in this shortened season along with Mariners CF Kyle Lewis. Robert could also be looking at a Gold Glove Award in 2020 with 9 defensive runs saved and an 6 OAA, which lands him in the 99th percentile.

The White Sox are currently 26-15 at the top of the AL Central after the first week of September with 19 games to play. Down the stretch, Luis Robert and Jose Abreu staying hot will be key in the Sox run to win the AL Central and any success they have in the playoffs.
