Alex Avila Signs With the Diamondbacks

Free agent catcher Alex Avila has agreed to terms with the Arizona Diamondbacks, per John Heyman. Avila ( .264/.387/.447) played for both the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs in 2017. Avila is a offensive boost from Dbacks catchers Jeff Mathis and Chris Hermann who Avila is expected to share time with in Arizona this season.

Last season, the catcher position was dominated by Chris Iannetta, who signed with the Rockies and actually put up similar slash lines in 2017 with Iannetta slashing ( .254/.354/.511). Both players are similar, this brings a slight offensive boost to a Diamondbacks team that needed it with the departure of Iannetta and J.D Martinez, the Diamondbacks are most likely not done this offseason.

I am a freshman at Cleveland State University. I was born and raised in New York City, though I adopted the Rockies as my team after having a fondness for them throughout my childhood thanks to Dexter Fowler and Carlos Gonzalez. As much as Rockies fandom is painful, I love to represent the purple pinstripes!
