Los Angeles Dodgers Unveil New 2021 Nike MLB City Connect Jersey

Today, the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers add a new look to their iconic brand. This morning, the Dodgers officially announced their Nike City Connect jersey, the seventh and final jersey to be released by Nike as part of their 2021 Nike City Connect series.

This will be an all-blue alternate jersey reminiscent of the team’s spring training jersey, featuring script reading “Los Dodgers” in the team’s traditional font and traditional red player numbers on the chest. On the jersey sleeves, Nike says that the black marks are symbolic of “a spray-paint design [to honor] L.A.’s mural culture.” Nike continues to add that, “throughout the city, artists have illustrated iconic Dodgers’ moments that commemorate the legacy of the club and its players.” Along with the jersey, all-blue pants and a blue hat with “Los Dodgers” script combine to complete the uniform.

In a statement by Lon Rosen, Dodgers executive vice president and chief marketing officer, he said that “The Dodger uniform is an iconic part of the franchise’s identity. While our traditional look has and will always be worn by the franchise-great players, the City Connect program offered us the opportunity to recognize the impact and importance of our multicultural fanbase.” Continuing to add to that he said, “We’re excited to debut these City Connect uniforms on the field and know our fans will enjoy seeing ‘Los Dodgers’ on the uniforms as well as our new murals, which bring Los Angeles’ street art culture to Dodger Stadium.”

With the jersey releasing ahead of Latino Heritage month in September and as a way to honor not only the 40th anniversary of Fernandomania but also the traditional “Viva Los Dodgers” chants heard throughout the stadium, this jersey aims to celebrate the connection that the Dodgers have shared with not only their Latin fanbase, but all Angelenos for over 60 years.

The Dodgers will debut this new alternate jersey for the first time tonight, at home against the New York Mets. With the Dodgers set to debut their new alternate jersey, that will be the last of the new Nike City Connect jerseys to be released for the 2021 MLB season. This season Nike collaborated with seven clubs, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago White Sox, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Miami Marlins, and the San Francisco Giants, to develop jerseys that honor the history that binds club, fan, city, and culture. Nike’s goal for later seasons is for the City Connect Series to appear league-wide.
