The annual All-Star break may not be the mathematical midpoint of the season, but spiritually we all know it is. Thus, what better time to do a bit more of an in-depth look at the Pitcher Power Rankings so far this season.
I’ve explained before, but as a reminder, these rankings include both starters and relievers, and are strictly a measure of how a pitcher has performed so far this season. They are the result of a formula; I don’t put my finger on the scale. Metrics used include innings, runs allowed, ERA estimates, and pitch-by-pitch success.
Pitchers are rated in total on a scale that tops out at 100, with a higher Score being better. The Score will be listed for each pitcher, as well as where they ranked last time this exercise was done (the end of June).
